Botox®

BOTOX is an injectable anti-aging treatment that blocks the nerve impulses that cause our facial muscles to move. Repetitive facial movements, like frowning, squinting, even smiling, are responsible for creating expression lines on the face.

BOTOX works by immobilizing these tiny muscles so that the surface skin is able to relax into a smoother appearance, restoring a younger, fresher look.

Is It Safe?

BOTOX has been used with safety for many years. The amount of Botulinum type A used in cosmetic treatments is extremely small, just enough to block the nerve impulse, and side effects from BOTOX are rare.

The best assurance of a successful outcome is by choosing treatment from a qualified medical professional. Proper injection technique is critical and this includes a full understanding of facial anatomy, the nerves and muscles involved, and how they affect your wrinkles.

How Long Does It Take?

A BOTOX treatment typically takes between 10 to 15 minutes. Discomfort during the procedure is usually minimal.

  • The area to be injected will be cleansed with an antiseptic swab.
  • Anesthetic is usually not necessary, but you can request a numbing cream to eliminate any possible discomfort.
  • Your doctor will ask you to make specific expressions so that he can identify muscle patterns and mark the injection sites.
  • Several quick injections will be applied and the area will be cleansed again.
If this is your first Botox treatment, you can expect your results to develop within 3-5 days (for women – men can take up to 10 days). Botox does not cause permanent immobilization of the minute facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles and movement will return to the treated area within 4 to 6 months.

A good candidate for BOTOX should be:

  • Physically healthy
  • Free of facial scarring
  • No history of diseases such as multiple sclerosis or myasthenia gravis
  • Not pregnant or nursing
  • Over 18 years of age

Your doctor will also confirm that the facial muscles targeted for treatment are in good condition, your skin is not too thick, you are not suffering from drooping eyelids, and that you are not allergic to BOTOX.

The amount of improvement after BOTOX can vary from person to person so it’s important to discuss your expectations with a qualified medical professional before any treatment.
