Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)

An ophthalmic solution or laser is used to weaken the epithelial cells so that the epithelium can be completely removed.  The complete removal of the epithelium distinguishes this from LASEK.  Excimer laser energy is used to reshape the cornea.  A bandage contact lens is worn until the epithelial cells are regenerated.
